New Britain, CT (April 5, 2006) – Gaffney Bennett Public Relations, a full-service public relations firm based in New Britain, Connecticut was recently honored by The Communicator Awards, an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communication field with an Award of Excellence and an Award of Distinction.

GBPR won an Award of Excellence for its work in developing and producing a marketing and educational brochure on behalf of Local 478 of the International Union of Operating Engineer, a client of the firm.

The Communicator’s Award of Excellence is presented to those whose ability to communicate elevates them among the best in the field. GBPR wrote the content of the brochure that is used by the Local to recruit new members as well as educate developers, contractors, potential members, elected officials, and the public on Local 478’s history, member benefits and its commitment to communities throughout the state.

GBPR was also presented with an Award of Distinction for its communication’s plan for the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now (ConnCAN). The Award of Distinction is presented to projects that exceed industry standards in design or communication skills. GBPR designed a communication plan with an comprehensive media relations campaign. The plan was designed to help ConnCAN raise its profile in Connecticut as well as create public awareness of the causes and consequences of Connecticut’s staggering achievement gap, (the gap in academic performance between white students and African American and Hispanic students in the state’s public schools) and to educate the public about the success of Connecticut’s charter schools in closing our state’s achievement gap.
